Holistic Nurse Coaching FAQ: Your Questions Answered About Mind-Body-Spirit Wellness

This FAQ covers everything you need to know, from what happens in a 1:1 or group session, to whether services are covered by insurance. Explore how holistic nurse coaching supports whole-person wellness, empowerment, and lasting transformation.

  • Holistic Nurse Coaching (HNC) is a collaborative, whole-person approach that weaves nursing science, with the arts of nursing - compassion, human connection, intuition -  and the art of coaching - curiosity, deep listening, and the belief that people hold their own answers. Like all registered nurses, holistic nurse coaches are licensed professionals, but we also receive additional training in holistic health, coaching, and often integrative practices such as mindfulness, breathwork, or energy healing.

This blog explains in more detail.

Traditional healthcare often focuses on diagnosing and treating specific symptoms or illnesses, with physical and mental health addressed separately, and little to no attention on environmental, emotional, or spiritual aspects. In contrast, holistic nurse coaching looks at the whole person — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and environment — and emphasizes empowerment, prevention, and sustainable growth.

Rather than seeing people as needing to be “fixed,” HNC recognizes each person as already whole, with their own inner wisdom and capacity for healing. Together, we explore not only ways to ease suffering, but also how to learn and grow from life’s challenges.

While therapy often looks to the past to process and heal, holistic nurse coaching is more future-focused — helping you clarify what matters most, build resilience, and take practical steps toward the life and health you want. The process is collaborative, compassionate, and rooted in the belief that real change happens when you feel empowered, supported, and connected.

  • Not at all. While I am available to support you through your specific health challenge and/or navigating the healthcare system during this time, there is always space for greater wellbeing, balance, connection, inspiration, and personal growth.  This work can support you if you are looking to improve energy, reduce stress, develop healthier habits, deepen self-awareness, or simply feel more aligned and balanced with the flow of life.

  • Yes! You do not need to have prior experience or knowledge, just curiosity and openness. We will move at a pace that feels comfortable and safe, focusing on approaches that resonate with you. The work we do together is not a prescription but rather an opportunity to explore and connect with your own inner healing wisdom.

  • Absolutely. There is a reason for the old cliche, it takes a village. As a holistic nurse coach I believe we all thrive when surrounded by a supportive team or community. My work is always a complement to - never a replacement for - your existing care.

I am happy to collaborate alongside your doctor, therapist, or other practitioner to ensure your wellness journey feels aligned. And if at any point I sense you may benefit from another professional’s expertise, I will always discuss and recommend  with your best intention in mind.

    Explore ways to work together.

  • A 1:1 holistic nurse session is a space to pause, reflect, reconnect, and feel supported. We begin sessions with a grounding practice such as a body scan, mindful meditation, breathing exercise, or visualization. This supports present moment awareness, creating a sacred space to explore what is present for you - a current challenge you are facing, a curiosity, a specific goal, a deeper desire for balance or self-understanding.

Together, we uncover what may be out of balance or asking to be nurtured, and we gently explore pathways to greater ease and wholeness. A session may include conversation, reflection, or may focus on a specific practice with a specific intention. For example, with feeling of high stress, we might spend most of our session in a grounding visualization to help your nervous system to feel safe.

1:1 sessions are always guided by your comfort and readiness.

  • Group holistic nurse coaching is a shared experience rather than an individual experience. Participants have the opportunity to build community, with the added benefit of learning from and supporting one another. Group sessions occur on a regular predetermined schedule (for example, one a week for 4 weeks) and are focused around a specific and common theme.

Each session opens with a grounding practice - meditation, breathing exercise, visualization, etc. This supports participants with present moment awareness, creating a sacred space to explore with one another.

The flow of a group session is directed by the story sharing and discussion of each individual. As a facilitator, I guide the conversation, providing tools and reflections, and ensuring all participants feel heard and respected.

  • From both my personal journey and my professional experience as a Registered Nurse, I know how much time and energy it can take to find a health professional who truly feels aligned. What matters most is finding someone you feel safe opening up with and who you can trust to hold that safety throughout your work together. This is especially important when exploring the kind of deep, personal work that can open the door to meaningful growth and change.
